Rep. LaMalfa Calls for Travel Ban from Ebola-affected Countries

October 17, 2014

Washington, DC – Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) today released the following statement calling for a complete travel ban on commercial flights to and from Ebola-stricken countries in West Africa.

"While I was happy to see the President finally address this issue, the fact is that this administration has failed to take even the most common sense steps to protect the health and safety of U.S. citizens. Americans need to be assured that their government is taking any and every action to eradicate the spread of this disease, and banning air travel from at-risk countries is one of the most basic measures that should have been taken weeks ago," continued LaMalfa. "If the President is serious about protecting U.S. citizens, then I urge him to take immediate action to ensure we do not put any more American's lives at risk to this deadly virus."

Representative LaMalfa is working with lawmakers in introducing legislation to impose a temporary travel ban between the United States and Ebola-stricken areas as well as suspend the issuance of visas for travel to the U.S. from affected countries until this virus is declared no longer a threat.

Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.
